Making Second Chances Work: A Conference for Grantees Committed to Successful Reentry, May 26-27, 2010

Conference Session: Supporting Juveniles Returning from Confinement and Their Families: Using an Integrated Cross-system Approach
10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Juveniles who are released from institutional confinement are more likely to succeed if they have access to services and structures that can help them thrive in a non-institutional environment. This panel discussion focused on the key components of reentry from the juvenile justice system that can help reduce recidivism and help youth build healthy, productive futures, including substance abuse and mental health treatment, education, housing, and family and youth engagement in reentry planning. The discussion emphasized strategies to integrate and improve coordination across systems and agencies.
