Probation and Parole in the United States, 2010

This publication, from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statics (BJS), presents BJS's findings about adults offenders under community supervision while on probation or parole during 2010. It examines changes in community supervision populations over the course of 2010 and prior years. As the report shows, the size and rate of growth of these population have declined in recent years. The report also provides statistics on the number of offenders entering and exiting probation and parole and the turnover of these populations. It describes the outcomes of supervision, including the rate at which probationers or parolees completed the terms of their supervision or were incarcerated for violating the conditions of supervision.
